The Unbroken Current of Karpatri Dham

Karpatri Dham at Kedar Ghat, Kashi is not merely a memorial. It is an enduring kshetra of Dharmasamrat Maharaj Ji’s devotion to Kashi, aradhana, shastric study, Guru-parampara and present spiritual guidance.

01

In the city of Bhagavan Vishwanath

Kashi was deeply beloved to Dharmasamrat Maharaj Ji. He often observed Chaturmasya here, expounded the glory of Kashi through shastra and remained devoted to Bhagavan Vishwanath, Kedareshwar and Mother Ganga.

His devotion to Kashi was not a narrow attachment to place. His reverence for the festivals and sacred traditions of Ayodhya, Vrindavan, Kurukshetra, Prayag, Ujjain and Haridwar extended the same all-India consciousness of tirtha.

02

Aradhana and the Deva Panchayatana

At the Ramakupeshwar precinct near Kedar Ghat, Maharaj Ji consecrated and served the Deva Panchayatana, including Shiva-Parvati, Ganesha, Surya, Tripurasundari, the family of Shri Rama, Shri Radha-Krishna, Hanuman Ji and Nandi. Sacred festivals, jhanki, worship and bhoga-raga were parts of continuous aradhana for him.

This worship was never separate from his shastric vision. Wisdom, Bhakti, mantra, puja and disciplined conduct appear here as different expressions of one spiritual life.

03

An unbroken tradition of shastric study

During Chaturmasya, Maharaj Ji taught the Prasthanatrayi, Mimamsa, Nyaya, Tantra and Veda to yatis, scholars, Brahmanas and students. Study and teaching therefore hold a foundational place in the spiritual identity of Karpatri Dham.

The establishment of Vedanta Anusandhan Sansthan at Kedar Ghat in 1979 gave institutional form to this long resolve. Writing, publication, shastric discussion and scholarly dialogue made this place a shared kshetra of thought and sadhana.

04

Mahaprayana and the lap of Mother Ganga

On 7 February 1982, after Ganga snan and while chanting the holy name of Shiva, Dharmasamrat Maharaj Ji became Brahmaleen at Vedanusandhan Kendra in Karpatri Dham. On 9 February at Kedar Ghat, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Puri Peethadhishwar Swami Niranjan Dev Tirth Ji Maharaj performed the sacred seva of jal-samadhi in the lap of Mother Ganga.

Karpatri Dham therefore holds together the remembrance of his life, sadhana and Mahaprayana. Remembrance here is not only a feeling for the past; it is a present responsibility toward a life established in Dharma.

05

The present spiritual centre

Param Pujya Swami Shri Sarveshwaranand Saraswati Ji Maharaj is the present Peethadhishwar of Karpatri Dham and President of Akhil Bharatiya Dharma Sangh. Under his guidance, the current of Guru remembrance, sadhana, anushthana and institutional seva continues today.

Kashi is the principal centre; Delhi, Siddha Kshetra Nemawar and Devkund Sagar, Bikaner are the other three principal institutional centres. These four centres provide institutional and visitor orientation; Dharmasamrat Maharaj Ji’s tradition and worldwide community of devotees are not limited to them.
